Policy and government relations - the cornerstone for aham's government work in the usa and canada is providing advocacy, analyses and reports on federal and state/provincial legislation and regulations affecting the Appliance industry. Government relations committees are maintained. Energy, consumer product safety, business regulation, environment, trade, repair & technology issues are among key issues followed. Industry positions are established through committees and communicated through testimony, written statements and regular meetings with officials.
Communications, marketing, and data: aham maintains a statistical program on Appliance industry factory shipments providing forecasts and custom reports. Aham conducts various research projects on Appliance features, environmental impact and consumer use. Results of research are used to inform policy, regulation and standard setting. Consumer education is provided through websites and blogs. Education is provided to industry members though meetings, seminars, webinars and publications.
Technical operations and standards - aham administers verification programs for refrigerator/freezers, room air conditioners, dehumidifiers, clothes washers, dishwashers, clothes dryers, range hoods(certification) and room air cleaners (certification). Certain appliances verified in these programs(range hoods and air cleaners) carry an aham mark assuring consumers that rated product characteristics are verified by a third party laboratory, using standard test methods. As part of this work, aham publishes online directories listing all models included in the various programs.
