Program areas at Atlanta Young Singers
Ays is a program for the training of youth between the ages of 5 to 18 in choral training, thereby developing their appreciation of and talent in music. Over 135 children and 10,000 audience members are directly affected by our programs. 25-30 performances are presented each year. Five rehearsals are held each week in 2 locations around the greater Atlanta metro area. There are five choir levels - introduction to music making, training choir, treble concert choir, tour choir, and youth chorale. All levels participate in a performance/choral festival tour each season; tcc and yc travel internationally or nationally for 7-14 days on alternating summers; in 2023, treble concert choir traveled to portland and eugene or to participate in picfest, an international choral festival with clinicians susan brumfield and gary packwood; training & intro to music making choirs performed for new audiences in columbus, ga. In addition to the choral program for children ages 7-18, ays also offers a non-auditioned class - together, we sing! - for k-1 students. As a result of the covid pandemic and new techniques learned, ays offers both online and in-person programming. Ays offered rehearsals, performances, camps, auditions, and outreach programming online and in-person sept-aug 2023.
Partial scholarships to participate in the ays program are awarded to individuals who meet the criteria set forth by the grantors of the funding. In fy2023, 12 ays Singers were awarded 15 different partial scholarships to participate in the main program; attend ays music camp, mini camp, or youth chorale retreat; and/or go on training, regional, or major tour.
