Farm support program: Augusta Locally Grown managed two farmers markets: (1) the alg on-line farmers market, a direct-to-consumer farmers market in the Augusta area, with pick-up locations in two counties. This market is a service to local farmers in that it significantly streamlines the market process for more effective use of time and resources for farmers. This market runs year-round. (2) the veggie park farmers market, a traditional direct farm-to-consumer market in a low-income/low-access neighborhood. It is the only market in Augusta that accepts and doubles snap. This farmers market has a significant educational component led by community members. It runs april-october. Community program: volunarism and education continued to be the driving force behind efforts at Augusta Locally Grown. This included (1) high school student internships at farmers markets, (2) undergrad and graduate student internships in seasonal food public education, (3) medical student volunteers in food access programs, and (4) community volunteers in community garden and farm-based events and educational programs.
Educational program: Augusta Locally Grown conducted a wide variety of educational and healthy food access programs targeted at a wide audience, with extensive efforts made to make local produce more affordable and acceddible for all income levels. This included: (1) vegetable gardening education, (2) seasonal foods cooking classes, (3) youth gardening and cooking education, (4) fruit and vegetable prescription program, (5) farm tours and workshops, (6) local food workshops, (7) foodways events, (8) food access outcomes studies.
