Program areas at Auntie Karen

Artpreneur/Technopreneur program aims to address the teacher shortage crisis in South Carolina by partnering with school districts to provide an alternative solution. This innovative program deploys experienced artists to teach music, dance, and visual arts to youth in underserved communities. In the past year, classes were taught in Barnwell, Marlboro, Richland, Marion, and Williamsburg Counties, reaching hundreds of students and enriching their educational experiences. Over 1200 youth served throughout the year. The foundation initiated a pilot housing program in Hardeeville, South Carolina. In the pilot, the foundation provided artists with housing from Sunday to Friday during the school year at a cost of $18,000. This initiative aimed to alleviate the burden of travel and allow artists to fully immerse themselves in their teaching roles. The pilot successfully benefited the artists and the school communities by enabling consistent and engaged instruction.
Gordon Sales - The Gordon Meets the Neighbors Next Door Project launched on July 2, 2021. The project started in 2020 during the Covid 19 Pandemic. The Auntie Karen Foundation partnered with Stacey Atkinson and The Door of Homes Organization to produce Covid Styled Outreach Programs. The net result was a collaboration with The Auntie Karen Foundation and the Young Writers Society to produce a coloring book entitled Gordon Meets The Neighbors Next Door. The color book is available as a free digital download. 1000 copies were printed and distributed at several outreach events in Columbia and Charleston, SC.
Legends of Outreach - On February 24, 2023, The Auntie Karen Foundation proudly presented the 19th Legends of...Concert at the Koger Center for the Arts in Columbia, South Carolina. This annual event celebrated the legacy of Al Jarreau with a theme, "A Tribute to Al Jarreau," showcasing remarkable performances by Kirk Whalum, Chris Walker, Regina Belle, and Bob James. The concert spanned two days, enriching the local community and music enthusiasts with its dynamic lineup. A highlight of the event was the Youth Master Class, conducted in collaboration with Richland School District One at AC Flora High School. The master class provided young musicians an invaluable opportunity to learn from industry professionals, enhancing their skills and inspiring their musical journeys. The concert itself was an outstanding showcase of talent, with The Auntie Karen All-Star Band opening the event, setting a high standard for the evening.
