Program areas at Auntie Karen
Artpreneur/Technopreneur program aims to address the teacher shortage crisis in South Carolina by partnering with school districts to provide an alternative solution. This innovative program deploys experienced artists to teach music, dance, and visual arts to youth in underserved communities. In the past year, classes were taught in Barnwell, Marlboro, Richland, Marion, and Williamsburg Counties, reaching hundreds of students and enriching their educational experiences. Over 1200 youth served throughout the year. The foundation initiated a pilot housing program in Hardeeville, South Carolina. In the pilot, the foundation provided artists with housing from Sunday to Friday during the school year at a cost of $18,000. This initiative aimed to alleviate the burden of travel and allow artists to fully immerse themselves in their teaching roles. The pilot successfully benefited the artists and the school communities by enabling consistent and engaged instruction.
