Program areas at Auroville International USA
Auroville International USA (AVI USA) supports projects aligned with the founding ideals of Auroville and promotes wherever, whenever possible peace and understanding between nations and individuals, a living embodiment of an actual human unity, an environment for unending education, and constant progress for humankind.During fiscal year 2024, AVI USA refined and structured our process for vetting and approving projects. We created a simple and thorough application form, annual reporting process, and conducted site visits for several projects. In all, we sent grants to 67 individual charitable projects involved with education, reafforestation, farming and food production, health and healing, women's empowerment, rural development, vocational training, and more.
All the grants that we sent came from our own fundraising activities, including public awareness campaigns, donor cultivation and stewardship, and grant writing. And we also sent monthly email newsletters, and hosted several livestream events that connected our global audience with people doing interesting and innovative work in Auroville. Throughout the year we collected funds from donors with a general interest in supporting Auroville, and in December we used those funds to match all donations to our vetted projects. Overall we raised over $200k for Auroville projects in December. We also partnered with the India Development and Relief Fund, which matched our grants for several projects, expanding our grantmaking capacity even further.
We also provided coaching and technical support to enhance their capacity. Our grants have resulted in dozens of young people receiving in-depth training and career development in coding and digital marketing, hundreds of students receiving high quality education with special attention to creativity and personal development, and thousands of trees being planted in Auroville. We supported an international conference on Computational Linguistics, the first stages of a vocational training program for Auroville youth, and a shelter that cares for dozens of stray and abandoned dogs. And we helped further the development of the gardens around the Matrimandir, Aurovilles spiritual center.
