Program areas at Auxiliary to the National Medical Association
Convention and Leadership Conference: A Convention is held each year to coincide with the National Medical Association's annual convention. The main purpose is to convene the House of Delegates, which is our legislative body, at which time necessary business is conducted and officers are elected for the following year. In addition, educational workshops are held for the attendees and, whenever possible, scholarships are presented to the various scholarship recipients. Mid Year Board meetings are held when necessary, to conduct the business of the organization.
Scholarship Programs: The Alma Wells Givens Scholarships are awarded annually, in the amount of $4,000 each, to four students - one at each of the following: Howard University College of Medicine, Washington, DC; Meharry Medical College, Nashville, TN; Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science, Los Angeles, CA, and Morehouse School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA. The Omega Mason/Maude Bisson Scholarships are awarded annually, in the amount of $1,000 each, to two students in Nursing. The Jesse B. Barber, Jr., M.D. Memorial Scholarships are awarded annually, in the amount of $5,000 each, to four students - one at each of the following institutions: Howard University College of Medicine, Meharry Medical College; Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science, and Morehouse School of Medicine. NOTE: Because of funding and timing differences total scholarships may appear to be more or less.
