Our signature fundraising event, Red Carpet Evening, kicked off the festivities in February 2015. The AV Film Lab, our educational outreach arm, began to roll out programs in March 2015. We offer lab classes with submission fees and a monthly screening series to our audience. AVFilm is located in Cloverdale, CA.

Program areas at AVFilm

Year-round Film Program: We strive to bring our community film screenings and events to which they would not otherwise have access and offer several year-round film series featuring diverse content and films relevant to the community's needs and interests, including: a. Arthouse Series: The Arthouse Series runs year-round and offers screenings of independent films. The series features domestic and international titles, films that debut at premiere film festivals from around the world, and independent films from distributors like Kino Lorber, Magnolia, Neon, and Cohen Media.b. Vamos Juntos al Cine: In partnership with Corazon Healdsburg, this series brought back family-friendly Spanish language movies to the Raven Film Center and started a new drive-in movie tradition in Healdsburg. In an effort to make this series accessible to low-income community members, admission is free and open to the public. c. Outdoor Summer Series: This series includes drive-in movies at the Cloverdale Citrus Fair, outdoor movies in the Healdsburg Plaza, and popup screenings in various locations throughout Cloverdale. Throughout the summer, these free outdoor movie screenings bring generations of film fans together for a fun and unique way of taking in a film.
AVFest:AVFest regularly showcases and hosts new and emerging talents from all over the world. We create opportunities for the community, students and adults alike, to meet, interact with, and learn from visiting artists. We also offer deeply discounted tickets to students and neighbors in need so that everyone is included. The 9th Annual AVFest was a 10-day celebration featuring more than 100 screenings and events across five cities. Through the transformative power of film, AVFilm brings global perspectives into our community, builds partnerships to broaden our impact, and educates, empowers, and engages students of all ages.
Education:AVFilm's educational programming enriches the lives of students and drives academic success through three categories:a. CLASSROOM PROGRAMS:i. Full Circle Cinema (AVFilm solution to integrating media arts training and literacy into schools where such opportunities do not currently exist):1. Integrated Filmmaking Intensive for English Class: From brainstorming to the final edit, this class helps students create their own videos for class projects and fun.2. Media Literacy & Film Integration: Allows teachers to bring teaching artists into their classroom to screen and discuss a film related to their subject area.3. Video Production Skills Training: Students learn skills such as editing tutorials, screenwriting basics, and story idea generation.ii. AV Cart!: AV Cart offers a free film for students to watch inside or outside of class plus a subject-area expert to visit during class to discuss the film and thematic issues. AV Cart provides both an educational opportunity and a break/fun activity in any learning environment.iii. Self-Directed Resources for Educators: A collection of tools that offer myriad ways to incorporate media literacy and video skills-building opportunities into classes. We gathered hundreds of potential solutions from respected educational partners and consolidated them into a digestible online directory for educators.b. EXTRACURRICULAR PROGRAMS:i. Future Filmmakers: An eight-week, after-school filmmaking program. Students learn the basics of filmmaking and create their short films.ii. Summer Film Camp: Students learn basic video-making skills and create their own work.iii. Through This Lens: Monthly lecture series with Director of Programming Mike Traina. Mike screens a film then lectures on a series theme. Designed for high school aged students and adults.c. Student Film Competition: Provides youth with an opportunity to share their voice through film and real-world experience of sharing artistic work in a public format. Student filmmakers receive feedback from a panel of professional video storytellers and compete for $3,000 in prize money.
