Organized in 2015 to help rebuild shelters in the southern bahama islands in the wake of Hurricane joaquin, the Bahamas Hurricane Restoration Fund (bhrf) is recognized by the u.s. internal revenue services as a section 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization. Monetary donations are tax- deductible for u.s. taxpayers.the work of bhrf continues in support of survivors of Hurricane dorian, a category 5, september 2019 storm and the largest and most powerful storm to hit the bahamian archipelago in recorded history. The damage left in its wake flattened homes and tens of thousands displaced from the islands of abaco and grand bahama is equally unprecedented. Bhrf continues to respond to this catastrophic situation with urgent assistance.we stand ready as both an emergency resource following a Hurricane and long-term partner to individuals, families, and businesses to restore hope and empower communities to flourish and stand strong against future storms. Our long-term efforts are focused on rebuilding core community sheltersbetter and stronger than before in order to preserve communities and promote historic conservation.
