Program areas at Bainum Family Foundation
The early childhood initiative supports children's healthy development and learning from birth to three. In collaboration with its practice partners, the Foundation enhances the quality and size of early learning programs by supporting technical assistance, professional developmentand facility enhancements. These quality-improvementmeasures help programs secure or retain sustainable publicfunding. The Foundation also works with its practicepartners to design and implement health, mental health andfamily-support programs prioritizing young children, especially infants and toddlers, and families living inhistorically marginalized and resilient communities. The majority of the Foundation's practices are anchored in the communities they serve. The Foundation also engages policy and advocacy partners to increase public funding for programs and services for young children and families. This work includes public awareness, policy implementation guidance and coalition building
Our legacy programs include the following:(1) seventh-day adventist community - supports seventh-day adventist schools and partners in creating environments where all children and families have equitable opportunities and resources to thrive(2) food security - makes investments and forms partnerships that foster a more sustainable, collaborative and equitable local food system in the Washington, d.c., area(3) Family philanthropy - supports and oversees the giving programs established by our founders, stewart sr. and jane Bainum, for subsequent generations of their Family (currently three generations), as well as the individual philanthropic efforts of Family members. Family philanthropy carries forward the philanthropic commitment of the founders while allowing Family members flexibility in the causes they support.
