Program areas at Ballet Idaho
To celebrate Ballet Idaho's 50th anniversary, four professional mainstage performances of Ballet were performed in boise, Idaho. A fall program titled mozart in motion included 4 works set to mozart's music, including works by two national choreographers, one balanchine work, and a new work by our artistic director. The third year of our new production of the nutcracker, which includes vibrant new sets and costumes, had 12 shows over two weekends in december.in february, the anthology program included 3 works by national choreographers and 1 by a company dancer. The season ended with a newly staged production of swan lake in may. Also in may, students in the trainee program staged their own performance. Through our outreach program, students from area schools and outlying rural schools were bussed to the mainstage venue for an abbreveated performance of mozart in motion, the nutcracker, and swan lake. As stewards and professional artists in the art form of Ballet, our goal is to bring the community together to enrich lives and instill a life-long appreciation of classic Ballet and all of the arts as related in western culture.
The utilization of academy students and teaching artists for education outreach in schools. Teaching artists visited elementary schools, which included title i schools in the treasure valley, introducing dance movements and Ballet technique to children as well as demonstrating the dance arts as a learning tool for teachers, through our learning through dance program. In addition, scholarships were granted to students from the participating schools and the schools were invited to abbreviated performances of mozart in motion, the nutcracker, and swan lake.
Operation of an academy of dance in support of and in partnership with the professional Ballet company. Students received dance instruction in class and ages 5-20 have the opportunity to participate in the live dance performances described in line 4a and 4c. Academy performances and recitals were held. The academy's goal is to train all ages in the physical discipline and artistic merits of classical dancing through musicality, precision of movement and mental aptitude.
