Program areas at BalletCollective

After years of development, Balletcollective celebrated the world premiere performance run of the night falls at peak performances at montclair state university from february 9-12, 2023 in montclair, nj. With a libretto and lyrics by pulitzer finalist karen russell, music and lyrics by ellis ludwig-leone, choreography and direction by troy schumacher, the night falls premiered as an 85 minute staged dance-driven work of music theater for nine dancers, eight singers, and a chamber ensemble to tell a new modern, american myth for our fractured era. In late 2023, the new york times named the night falls in "best dance performances of 2023." Balletcollective presented its 2023 new york city season: the moment is imminent, which featured two world premiere ballets from two acclaimed creative teams. Balletcollective founder and choreographer troy schumacher collaborated with composer phong tran and ttrpg designer samantha leigh to create the world we left behind. Choreographer omar roman de jesus, the 4th recipient of Balletcollective's commission for developing choreographers, collaborated with composer robert honstein, and visual artist kathrin linkersdorff to make love me while i'm here. The moment is imminent premiered on october 30, 2023 with live music and an ensemble of dancers from new york city ballet with subsequent performances on november 1st and 2nd at trinity commons. The final performance was streamed live. Balletcollective held two summer choreographic residencies for the moment is imminent from june 12-24, 2023 in new york city and june 26-july 9, 2023 in millbrook, ny. The second residency culminated with two low cost public performances for 200 members of the hudson valley community july 8 and 9. Open rehearsals for the community were held at the millbrook school and one educational event for the local student community in collaboration with the wethersfield estate and garden was held on july 1.
