Although reimbursement for services rendered is critical to the operation and stability of Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, Inc., it is recognized that not all individuals possess the ability to purchase essential medical services, and further, that the mission of Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, Inc. is to serve the community with respect to providing health care services and health care education. Therefore, in keeping with its commitment to serve all members of its community, Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, Inc. Provides the following:- free care and/or subsidized care where the need and/or an individual's inability to pay coexist,- care provided to persons covered by governmental programs at below cost, and- health activities and programs to support the community.these activities include wellness programs, community education programs, and special programs for the elderly, handicapped, medically underserved, and a variety of broad community support activities.baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, inc.'s program services for the fiscal year ended september 30, 2023 included the following:- the skilled nursing department had 12,386 patient days at a cost of $11,625,888.- the surgery department performed 3,096 procedures at a cost of $7,102,511.- the pharmacy department dispensed medication at a cost of $5,730,977.- the radiology department performed 66,457 procedures at a cost of $3,437,792.- the lab department performed 347,618 procedures at a cost of $6,316,307.- the oncology departments performed procedures and had clinics at a cost of $49,614,140.baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, Inc. serviced 3,038 inpatients and provided 94,754 outpatient visits during fiscal year 2023.baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, Inc. Provides care to persons covered by governmental programs from which the hospital receives payment at less than market value reimbursement. Recognizing its mission to the community, services are provided to medicare, medicaid, and uninsured patients. To the extent reimbursement is below cost, Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, Inc. Recognizes these amounts as charity care in meeting its mission to the entire community. During the fiscal year ended september 30, 2023, the unreimbursed value of providing care to these patients was $335,171,905. Charity care is also provided through many reduced-price services and free programs offered throughout the year based upon activities and services which Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, Inc. Believes will serve a bona fide community health need.baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, Inc. has provided a number of services in the community, some of which include the following:- representatives who spoke free of charge to various community groups, churches, industries, and schools throughout the year.- multiple health fairs in various sectors of the community, including schools and businesses.- sponsored healthy lifestyle programs as well as 5k runs throughout the year for adults and children.- vaccinations throughout the year for the community at no-charge or reduced prices, including first responders and law enforcement. - hosts multiple blood drives for staff and the community throughout the year.- provided various free or reduced-priced classes to the community throughout the year, which included the following: - cpr and first aid - stop-the-bleed classes - ostomy support group meetings - diabetes management classesbaptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, Inc. Offered reduced pricing for heartscore cardiac calcium screenings for national heart month. Heart health education was presented to third graders at the new albany elementary school to instill the importance of making healthy choices.baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, Inc. Participated in a number of health fairs in the community including on-site screenings for employees at the new albany schools and union County schools, the Mississippi department of transportation regional site, senior day at the union County fair, and the wtva senior fair. The community health fair was provided free to the community and included free lipid screenings, blood pressure screenings, height/weight/bmi screenings, bone density screenings, flu vaccines, and numerous educational booths including breast cancer awareness, sleep disorders, community resources, and clinics.baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, Inc. Contributed to the following organizations: - helping hands organization to feed and clothe needy families; - regional rehabilitation's pedaling for hope bike ride to provide free therapy for children without any cost to the family; - boys & girls club financial donation; - donation of an automated external defibrillator to west union attendance center; and - three union County school donations of medical supplies and equipment to create health science labs.baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, Inc. Assisted physicians and volunteers to provide free sports physicals for athletes at multiple area schools as well as blue mountain college. Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, inc.'s community coordinator provided education programs on site at multiple schools focused on personal hygiene, heart health, and nutrition. Further school support includes participation in career fairs, technology day, relay day, and other special programs. Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, Inc. also supports multiple sports programs at area schools to encourage active lifestyles. Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, Inc. partnered with the new albany school and union County systems to offer career shadowing through the impacto program for students interested in health care careers. Area students were invited to participate in the health care career academy, a week-long program that introduces students to health care careers at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, inc.baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, Inc. was a sponsor of the "night to shine" program that gives kids and adults with special needs a night to celebrate. Several Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, Inc. employees volunteered and served as medical personnel for the event. Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, Inc. also provided sponsorships for the create imagine the possibilities career education forum and first choice pregnancy center's fall festival.children ages newborn to 12 years old were invited to attend the annual back to school health fair. This event was expanded to newborns and toddlers to promote learning in early childhood as part of the excel by 5 community initiative. Educational topics included nutrition, dental, physical activity, bullying, handwashing, tobacco prevention, home safety, immunizations, and car seat safety. The annual event resulted in over 650 children and adults that participated. A free sack lunch was provided to all that attended along with many giveaways and school supplies.baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County, Inc. Hosts an annual baby fair for expectant mothers. Information includes car seat safety, nutrition, wellness, baby care, preadmissions, lactation specialist, and wic. As part of the efforts to improve maternal outcomes, the university of Mississippi medical center's center for telehealth maternal remote patient monitoring program participated in the baby fair along with the Mississippi department of health's healthy moms/healthy babies program. Physician experts and other health care professionals were also present to answer questions. Baby items are provided to all participants. The event attracts an average of 125 mothers and their families annually.
