Program areas at Barbershop Harmony Society - Masters of Harmony
SHOWS, PERFORMANCES, CONTESTS AND PUBLIC REHEARSALS: To encourage and promote the education of its members and the public in music appreciation and to promote public appreciation of barbershop harmony, Masters of Harmony chorus produces shows and performs for the general public in Southern California and for the barbershop community at conventions and contests all over the United States. In addition, weekly rehearsals held by the chorus are open for public. In May, the chorus had two Spring Shows at Carpenter Performing Arts Theatre in Long Beach for a total of 1003 patrons. In May, Masters of Harmony competed at the District Contest in Las Angeles, CA, before 1500 people, placing first. In June, Masters of Harmony also performed at Lake Arrowhead for 500 patrons. In September, Masters of Harmony hosted a 30th Anniversary show at Yorba Linda Country Club for approximately 350 patrons. In November, Masters of Harmony performed a joint concert with the Southern California Children's Chorus at St Andrews Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach, CA, for 450 patrons. In November, Masters of Harmony also performed one Christmas Show at Carpenter PAC, Long Beach for 740 patrons. In December, Masters of Harmony performed at City of Santa Fe Springs Tree Lighting Ceremony for approx. 400 patrons and had a Christmas Show at Fox PAC, Riverside for 670 patrons. In 2015, Masters of Harmony had 47 public rehearsals that that were visited by hundreds of patrons and guest singers.
RECORDING, REPLICATION, PROMOTION AND SALES OF BARBERSHOP ALBUMS: Masters of Harmony did not record or replicate any new albums in 2015 but it continued to market its eight albums to encourage the music education of its members and the public, and to promote the appreciation of barbershop harmony all around the world. Masters of Harmony albums are sold at shows, performances and conventions as well as online at www.mastersofharmony.org. Digital distribution of Masters of Harmony recordings is provided by a cappella label Naked Voice Records at www.nichemusicgroup.com. Masters of Harmony recordings can also be downloaded on iTunes.
YOUTH OUTREACH PROGRAM: In February of 2015, Masters of Harmony organized its annual Young Men's Harmony Festival at Orange Coast College, Costa Mesa. The purpose of the festival is to encourage the music education of the youth and to provide them an opportunity to learn to appreciate barbershop harmony. The festival consisted of a full day of teaching and demonstrating barbershop singing to 190 high school students. It culminated into a joint performance of students singing with Masters of Harmony for an enthusiastic audience of 250 people consisting mainly of high school students, their family members and high school music teachers.
