Program areas at Barrington Area Council on Aging
Bacoa offers a series of support services for those needing care, caregivers, or both. Services including support groups for alzheimer's, caregivers and low vision. Additionally, bacoa provides support programs to enable the health-challenged and their care partners' better methods to cope with the stress of illness, including "a day out" respite program and memory care. Bacoa also has certified senior health insurance programs counselors and volunteers to assist older adults and family caregivers with issues related to medicare and other government services. Clients needing assistance with medical issues or service coordination can rely on bacoa's critical care programing to help them with needs ranging from full government services and medical coordination to simple transportation.
Studies have demonstrated that isolation and loneliness are serious health risks and lead to illness and premature death - especially for older adults. "a day out" respite program provides an opportunity for those with mild cognitive-related issues to connect and engage with others while also providing care partners a needed break from caregiving responsibilities.
Bacoa's meals with wheels program ensures more than 4,000 nutritional meals are annually served to Barrington Area residents unable to prepare meals for themselves either because of poor health or low income.
