Program areas at Barton Institute for Community Action
Through 2021, lifespan local was a division of the Barton Institute. In 2022, the Barton Institute became a fiscal sponsor for lifespan local and in mid-2022, the organization became a separate 501c3. The Barton Institute granted all of the assets of lifespan local to the new organization. The mission of lifespan local is to cultivate Community well-being through partnerships with local residents and Community champions. The lifespan local approach builds on the success of the dahlia campus for health and well-being, led by dr. lydia prado.
The village Institute is a live/learn/work center for single-mother refugee families. This holistic model brings housing, language learning, childcare, job readiness workshops, and mental health services under one roof. The Barton Institute is the fiscal sponsor for the village Institute.
Commun works in southwest denver to build Community resilience through relationships and programs that center Community voice, cultivate a sense of belonging, and realize equity. Commun answers the call for Community gathering space, local food entrepreneurship, and health. The Barton Institute is the fiscal sponsor for commun.
The Colorado safe parking initiative is a grassroots initiative to encourage safe, legal parking locations for individuals and families experiencing homelessness who are living in their vehicles in Colorado's front-range communities. Additionally, other program services consist of the Colorado village collaborative, the Colorado evaluation and Action lab.
