Program areas at Baton Rouge Green Association
Louisiana community forests was created to cultivate and promote stewardship of community forests and Green infrastructure throughout Louisiana. Through this program, Baton Rouge Green cooperates directly with the u.s. forest service and Louisiana dept. Of agriculture and forestry to communicate the benefits of community forests, as well as provide support for local partners in their stewardship efforts.
Neighborwoods: over the years Baton Rouge Green has assisted countless environmentally-underserved areas of our community with greening efforts. Partnering with city government, neighborhood organizations, private companies, residents and volunteers, Baton Rouge Green has shared and implemented technical expertise about planting and maintaining trees to improve the Green infrastructure in their neighborhoods.
Through its living roadways program, Baton Rouge Green has planted thousands of trees at medians and intersections along Baton Rouge's highly travelled roadways. With help from our generous sponsors, we provide regular maintenance for about 4,300 trees in roadside Green spaces around Baton Rouge.
City citrus program Baton Rouge Green assists volunteer citrus shepherds in establishing mini citrus orchards near businesses, churches, schools, libraries, etc. For the annual pick event, each year brg matches at home citrus shepherds who have well-established trees producing more fruit than they can consume with volunteer pickers to harvest their citrus during winter. The fresh fruit, donated and harvested entirely by volunteers, is given to the greater Baton Rouge food bank and distributed throughout their network to families in need.
