Description
Bay Area Youth Emt Program instructs inner-city youth in the EMT and fire curriculum to increase diversity in the first responder profession. The program aims to create civic-minded EMTs and firefighters who will work with community-based programs and local EMS and fire agencies. This unique program targets at-risk youth ages 18 to 24, diverting them to a vocational program channeling them into healthcare. Additionally, the Bay Area Youth Emt Program provides grants to agencies supporting their mission.

Program areas at Bay Area Youth Emt Program

Bay Emt is a unique Program that targets at-risk Youth ages 18 to 24, most of whom have had run-ins with the law, and diverts them to a vocational Program that channels them into the health care field. The organization hopes to increase diversity in the health care industry and in the process teaches Youth to become conscientious, civic-minded citizens. Bay Emt offers two five-month courses each year, one in june and another in january. If students complete the course successfully, they are eligible to take the national registry exam, which qualifies them to work as emts. Since the Program began in 2002, over 300 students have gone on to successful medical and firefighting careers.
