Beloved Community catalyzes people and institutions, facilitates sustainable cross-sector diversity practices, and improves economic growth. In its fifth year, Beloved Community trained 497 organizational leaders in diversity, equity and inclusion practices, and supported 113 organizations with ongoing facilitations. They also developed the Equity Audit Tool Suite.

Program areas at Beloved Community

In Beloved Community's sixth year we supported 90 orgnizations with ongoing facilitations, trained 770 organizational leaders in diversity, equity, and inclusion practices. We celebrated the following impact and milestones: 1) Awa By Beloved Tool Suite: In FY 23, 44 organizations completed the Equity Audit and 347 employees completed the Equity Lens Map. The work of these leaders impacted 43,000 full time staff across the respective organizations. Respondents reflected the growth of our Equity at Work pillar (practicularly in the hospitality sector) by comprising 68% (30) of takers as compared 32% (14) in the Equity in Schools pillar. Further, our tool suite users represent each major client type: Nonprofit (23) Corporate(9) and K-12 (12). 2)Sustaining Change Convening: Beloved Community hosted our first national convening in New Orleans. During this four day gathering, 150 leaders from 19 different states engaged in thoughtful dialogue, capacity building and fellowship to sustain the work seeded in the prior five years. 3)Communities of practice: In FY23 Beloved Community deepened our work with four of our established communities of practice across the US: Equity In Schools Cohort in Indianapolis supporting 3 charter and innovation schools, with 23 leaders in the development of their equity plans. Equity in Schools cohort in Kansas City supporting 8 school district and LEA leadership teams participated in the development of their equity plans. Within this experience, 62.5% of districts created goals around recruitment, retention, belonging and onboarding of BIPOC staff. Additional, 75% of districts committed to increasing belonging and shared voice, shared power for marginalized student populations. Leaders of Color cohort in New England supporting 12 nonprofit leadership teams with 40 leaders. Equity at Work - Hospitality in New Orleans launched in FY22 supporting 23 restaurant and hospitality groups with 94 leaders. 91% of participants and 80% of team members were retained within the cohort for year 2. 4) Participatory Action Research: In FY23 Beloved Community expanded our DRIP (Data, Research, Impact and Policy) Center with the launch of our first Participatory Action Research (PAR) and Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) programming. NOLA C.A.R.E.S is a collaborative project that aids Black and Brown women working in the childcare sector. Within this initiative, Beloved Community leads a coalition of 11 partner organizations with a goal to empower at leas 500 women to conduct research to support and inform public policy surrounding childcare centers and subsidies. YPAR Summer Academy trains and compensates young people (ages 14-18) to conduct and execute their own research agenda with the goal of bringing forth their findings to practioners and polilcy advocates. In FY 23 15 young people completed our second YPAR Summer Academy.
