Program areas at BBB

Bbb works to promote and foster the highest ethical between Business and the public through voluntary self-regulation relationship education and service excellence. We do so through the following programs:1. Dispute resolution: 10,183 complaints handled and closed against accredited and non-accredited businesses in our service area in 2022.2. Business/charity reviews and consumer hotline: consumers can find information on businesses and charities from our comprehensive database. Consumers also seek information on scams. Inquiries can be made via website and phone. 3,588,570 inquiries in 2022.3. Ad reviews: 8 advertising review cases handled.4. Customer reviews: consumers can leave both positive and negative reviews on businesses in our service area. Reviews are verified by bbb prior to being published. 4,721 customer reviews received by bbb.5. Arbitrations: offered to both accredited businesses, as well as consumers looking to resolve lemon law complaints. 3 arbitrations held in 2022.6. Virtual outreach events, speeches, presentation, events: 38 events/presentation/speeches reaching 13,8557. Accredited Business newsletter: 921,1418. Programs geared toward accredited businesses:bbb golf tournament at drive shack - in april, bbb hosted their second bbb golf tournament at drive shack in an effort to raise funds for the bbb educational foundation (ef). The event was fully sold out and between sponsorships, ticket sales, raffle items, and auction items the ef was able to net $15,000. Bbb digital resource library - this past year, bbb created the bbb digital resource library as a way for abs to receive expert level instruction on a variety of topics in short video format. This allows abs to access this information at any time instead of not being able to make a scheduled webinar or lunch and learn. Topics so far include canva basics pt. 1, the valuation of your company, and managing your online reputation. Bbb professional headshot events - in the fall of 2022, bbb hosted two professional headshot events. The first event was hosted in greenville at uptown nucleus, a local co-working space, and the second event was held at bbb offices. Both were well attended and well received with local businesses being able to receive professional headshots and have one-on-one in person networking with other businesses and bbb staff. Bbb catalyst - in 2022, bbb launched catalyst, a program that recognizes accredited businesses whose actions favorably impact the environment and society and provides opportunities for all businesses to make a difference.the good guide to Business podcast - in 2022, the brunch with bbb podcast rebranded to the good guide to Business in an effort to interview and focus on businesses in our community that make an effort to have a positive impact in the community and for the environment. Guests have included businesses fillaree, 621 productions, and non-profit note in the pocket. Better your Business academy - bbb continued the Better your Business academy this summer and helped businesses strengthen crucial areas of their organization. During the one-month course, attendees received supportive guidance from experts to help them succeed through four in-depth workshops, including selling your brand, employee retention/attracting talent, customer retention, and continuing relevance in a new age. Nil webinars - this past year, bbb hosted three webinars with ecu, unc and nc state compliance offices, respectively for insight into their name, image, and likeness (nil) programs. Nil allows businesses to partners with collegiate athletes is a sponsorship capacity. Being able to let our businesses get insight into how each school handles their program was both insightful and widely applauded. Several bbbs across the country have now replicated similar webinars with their local colleges and universities. Media - throughout 2022, we were able to maintain strong relationships with all of the media contacts across our 33-county service area. This has led to regular television coverage with wtvd, wncn, and spectrum news (which reaches across the state) in the raleigh-durham dma as well as witn and wnct in the greenville-new bern-washington dma. We were able to show the high level of expertise bbb has in regards to Business and consumers trends and scams. Our efforts resulted in a total of 2,665 media hits and took part in approx. 120 interviews in 2022. Torch programs - in april, bbb and the bbb educational foundation hosted the bbb torch awards ceremony to recognize the winners of the bbb torch award, bbb torch scholarships, bbb spark award, and bbb spark jr at prestonwood country club. Bbb and the ef were able to recognize 10 torch award winners and finalists, award $18,000 in scholarships to local high school and college students in our 33-county service area, and $2,000 to the bbb spark award winner. Video production service - in late 2022, bbb launched a video production service where bbb offers video services at an affordable rate. Since its inception, bbb has produced two videos and several more in the works
