Program areas at Beyond Monumental
Beyond Monumental hosts three exceptional running events, the Indianapolis 5k and Monumental mile, the indy half at fort ben (5k, 10k and half-marathon), and the cno financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon (5k, half-marathon, marathon)proceeds from these events are used to promote youth health and wellness in central Indiana, as well as to raise funds to support student participation in the apex benefits Monumental kids' movement. Since 2021, the Beyond Monumental board of directors has annually set aside $150k of its earnings each year to help fund and support the programming of the apex benefits Monumental kids movement.in 2023, Beyond Monumental offered a new 5k distance at our june kickoff event, the Indianapolis 5k and Monumental mile. In june, we also hosted the usatf masters one-mile championship, bringing hundreds of new runners to the city of Indianapolis. We continued to offer the new 10k distance at our indy half at fort ben race. And, in 2024, the indy half at fort ben will host the usatf masters half Marathon championships.
The apex benefits Monumental kids movement is a seven-to-nine-week, curriculum-based youth running program that culminates with students running a 5k. This bi-weekly program focuses on educating students about the benefits of exercise, proper diet, and healthy living.in 2023, the apex benefits Monumental kids movement continued and expanded its in person participation for schools within several central Indiana school districts including: Indianapolis public schools, as well as lawrence, perry, pike, and Washington township school districts.on september 30, 2023, Beyond Monumental hosted the 2nd annual apex benefits Monumental kids movement 5k race and health expo. This is a stand-alone event, held just for the participants of the mkm program. More than 20 health and wellness vendors came out to the grounds of lucas oil stadium to host a health expo for over 3,000 participants, parents, and mentors prior to and during the 5k race that started and ended at lucas oil stadium. The Beyond Monumental board of directors once again set aside restricted funds to be used for the mkm program totaling $150,000. In addition to the board designated funds, Beyond Monumental raised an additional 87,429 through sponsorships and race participant donations for 2023 programming. Cash donations of $77,800 were paid out to participating school districts and other youth health and wellness focused charities. Other programming and event costs totaled $37,716. Additionally, Beyond Monumental estimates an annual allocation of salaries and other employee related expenses of $57,757 directly tied to the apex benefits Monumental kids movement program and event. Since the inception of the apex benefits' Monumental kids movement, with the generosity of our partners, participants, and our board of directors our program is having a direct and positive influence on the health and wellness of the youth in our community. We have been able to: empower more than 30,694 students to learn and be active through the program. Support 2,684 volunteers who have served as program motivators to engage and inspire the students participating in the program; and donate over $1.6 million to local public health and wellness education.at its annual meeting in january 2024, the Beyond Monumental board of directors again voted to continue to have a total of $150,000 in restricted funds for 2024 apex benefits Monumental kids movement programming.in 2024, health and wellness programming will continue, and students will again be able to participate in a stand-alone 5k event. We are looking to add some new and exciting elements to the stand-alone event in 2024.
