Program areas at Bichon Rescue Brigade
Care and treatment by veterinarians and professional animal behaviorists for medically fragile, behavioral and other special needs dogs rescued by our organization. We rescue approximately 100-150 dogs per year, and about 90% of them require extensive medical treatment and/or training. This includes approx. 15-20 dogs in our lifetime care program who require lifelong medications, medical care and maintenance.
Supplies that we provide for rescued dogs when they go to their foster and/or adoption home to ensure they have basic supplies needed for their transition -- leash/collar/harness/tag, bed, blanket, toy, food dishes, food, treats, flea treatment. Average cost of supplies per dog is $60 (not including medical care costs.) This also includes costs for dogs in our Forever Foster program, who are not adoptable due to medical or behavior. BRB provides lifelong care -- food, grooming, supplies -- at approx. $1000 per month for 20-25 dogs in the program.
Kennel and administrative costs for our designated / approved facility approved by The Orange County Animal Services that enable us to provide interim housing for dogs before going to foster or adopter home, as well as lifelong care for some dogs deemed unadoptable due to medical conditions. This facility enables us to transition dogs from shelters to private foster / adopter homes and/or to care for some dogs as they live out their final days / months / years. Administrative costs also include utilities, internet hosting and support.
