Program areas at Bienestar
Bienestar owns and operates affordable multifamily housing for families earning 60% or less of area median income. In 2023 Bienestar completed lease-up for its newest and largest property, 150-unit nueva esperanza in hillsboro. Construction also continued on plaza los amigos, a 113-unit development in cornelius, due to be completed in 2024.
Bienestar's resident services team helps meet the diverse needs of the families living in our properties. At the heart of this work is our promotores program, which empowers resident leaders (called promotores) to serve as liaisons between their neighbors and Bienestar staff, helping to identify community needs and deliver programs to meet those needs. Along with our 12 promotores, in 2023 Bienestar launched the first youth promotores cohort to build intergenerational bonds and provide youth with leadership development opportunities. We also provided advocacy training to support our community's ability to advocate to public leaders; we organized 2 spanish-language public forums during 2023 that allowed 100+ residents to make their voices heard to policymakers. Finally, the program met a wide array of community needs in 2023, including helping residents access more than $60,000 in rent and utilities assistance, distributing 100+ holiday food boxes, and serving 500 youth with summer enrichment activities.
Bienestar's supportive housing services team works diligently on prevention, intervention, restoration, and stabilization for our community members who are houseless, at-risk of becoming homeless, or facing housing instability. Using a trauma informed lens, we provide access to supportive wraparound services, housing, employment, and education services for underserved and marginalized populations through a comprehensive, community-based approach. In 2023, we helped 271 households access the services they needed to help stabilize their living situation.
