Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Florida operates under the belief that the ability to succeed and thrive in life is inherent in every child. BBBSCFL's roots began in 1975 under the leadership of community volunteers. In the Community-Based program, volunteer Bigs provide individualized time and attention to a Little between the ages of 6-16 for 6 hours per month for 12 months. During unstructured outings, filled with conversations and shared activities, matches develop strong relationships that have a positive impact on the lives of Littles, Bigs and their families.

Program areas at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Florida

Community-Based Mentoring: Our Community-Based Mentoring Program matches dedicated, screened volunteers with youth between the ages of 6-16 that are facing adversity. The child and volunteer, with assistance from staff, develops academic and social development goals to work on during the first year of their match. They meet for a minimum of 4 hours per month for at least 1 year. Our staff works closely with each family and volunteer to ensure a lasting and safe relationship focused on the child's success.
Site-Based Mentoring: Our Site-Based Mentoring Program works with 3 partner elementary schools in 2 counties to serve students who have low grades, poor attendance, and poor behavior. Our staff makes individualized goals based on the student's specific needs. Our screened volunteers meet with students for one hour each week during their special area time to work on their academic and social development goals. Our staff works closely with each student and volunteer to ensure a lasting and safe relationship focused on the child's success.
