Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mercer County provides strong and enduring professionally supported 1 to 1 relationships that change the lives of children facing adversity for the better. In 2021, BBBS - Mercer provided mentors to 214 vulnerable youths through its three basic types of programs: community-based, school-based, and site-based. The community-based program involves volunteers (Bigs) who provide opportunities for youths (Littles) to enjoy the companionship of caring adults outside of the home.

Program areas at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mercer County

BBBS - Mercer provided mentors to 293 vulnerable youths in 2023. The Three Basic types of programs are: Community based - involves volunteers (Bigs) who provide opportunities for youths (Littles) to enjoy the companionship of caring adult outside of the home and school in various cultural, educational and recreational types of activities; school based - involves volunteers who provide Littles with one on one time and attention in their school setting, typically for at least one hour per week during the academic year; Workplace Mentoring - involves volunteers who provide one on one mentoring at the workplace twice monthly where littles learn about the business, careers, and educational requirements. STEM educational activities are also part of the curriculum.
