Big Leaf Montessori

In 2023 our seven exceptional staff served 57 children ages 30 months to 12 years of age, providing quality individualized instruction using the Montessori philosophy. We are proud to share that two of our team members began or completed teaching credential programs in 2023, a tremendous undertaking that will only strengthen our professional community and student learning opportunities. Our elementary students were fortunate to attend outdoor school, swimming lessons, and field trips in addition to classroom instruction. Service projects are an essential component of our community. Big Leaf students spent time caring for the garden, creating outdoor murals, collecting food donations for the neighborhood blessing box, picking up litter, managing our little library, and more. We continue to offer extended day and summer care options for working parents. Parents report that their students make learning gains during summer care, rather than learning lost. We participate in both the state of Washington and cowlitz tribal subsidy programs to expand accessibility for low-income families in our community. More than 10% of our students rely on these critical programs.
