Program areas at Bike MN
Bike rides/events: organized 4 major rides with 150 to 2,000 participants. Also organized several smaller rides with less than 100 people.
Communities and businesses that want to provide programs and facilities that will make bicycling safer and more accessible. We consult with community and business leaders and staff to provide assessments and recommendations for improvements. This program is implemented with support from the Minnesota department of health, the mcknight foundation, and other supporters. This program provides assistance in about a dozen communities throughout Minnesota per year and supports ten local chapter committees.
Education: the education program organizes about 10 trainings per year for about 200 teachers to use the walk Bike fun elementary school safety curriculum and provides technical assistance and loaner bicycles to about 40 schools per year that are implementing the curriculum. This work is supported by mndot. The program also coordinated a statewide network of more than 200 volunteer Bicycle safety instructors with support from members and events.
Education: the education program reorganized in 2020 to do teacher trainings in three phases, an online do it yourself session, a video conference with bikemn trainers and outdoor on Bike sessions following covid-19 protocols. These sessions trained about 150 teachers to use the walk Bike fun elementary school safety curriculum and provides technical assistance and loaner bicycles to about 40 schools per year that are implementing the curriculum. The curriculum was revised to include distance learning and learn at home programs in 2020 and translated into hmong, somali, and spanish, as well as english. These procedures were still used in 2023. This work is supported by mndot. The education program also coordinated and held online. Trainings for a statewide network of more than 100 volunteer Bicycle safety instructors that held a few outside classes including some adult learn to ride programs.
