Doula Services to Low-Resource Families: Provided doula services to 52 families. Compared to 2019 data for births in Alabama, clients were likely to have a cesarean birth (13.95% vs. 34.6%) and less likely to have a preterm birth (8.89% vs. 12.48%). 94.75% of clients breastfed their baby at least one time.
Childbirth Education: 38 individuals participated in free childbirth education classes taught online or in-person at 2 residential substance abuse treatment facilities. Classes covered evidence based information related to pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding. Classes were also open to doulas who wanted continuing education.
Doula Training: We facilitated 4 workshops and trained 39 doulas. Seven of the doulas attended training for free or reduced cost as part of needs - based work study arrangement. Trainings increased number and diversity of doulas in Alabama.
