Early Care and Education (ECE): ECE seeks to increase the diversity of ECE leaders and provide ongoing leadership support for early educators and childcare providers. BCDI-Atlanta held its signature event, the 4th Annual Culturally Responsive Early Education & Care Leadership Summit, on Feb 21, 2023, at the Loudermilk Conference Center in Atlanta, GA, welcoming 147 stakeholders. A full day of professional development centered on the theme: Mirroring the Black Experience, session topics related to five tracks: Early Learning, Family Engagement, Early Literacy, Leadership & Advocacy and School Transition. Conference attendees worked in 91 zip codes representing 10 counties within Georgia, 2 in Washington DC, DMV and one in Florida
Early Literacy: focus on improving language development skills and fostering a love for books among young children. Literacy remains a cornerstone of our mission, and in 2023, we made significant strides in promoting reading and literacy among Black children. We distributed 5.480 children's book and hosted literacy events (Community Cafes and book drives) through partnerships with libraries and schools, fostering a love for learning and storytelling. Our efforts have contributed to improved literacy and school readiness rates and a greater appreciation for the power of reading.
Health & Wellness: Good for Me! Health and wellness program aims to improve outcomes for children of color by providing resources that reflect their families, cultures, and communities. BCDI-Atlanta collaborated with early learning centers to provide culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate toolkits to children, families, and educators based on their needs. Parents and educators gathered at Community Cafes designed to provide a collaborative learning environment. They met with early learning leaders in a dynamic and interactive space to model a family-centered approach to child well-being and to strengthen families. Educators received work- shops on nutrition and physical activities, (see Schedule 0)
Strengthen bonds between families and schools, creating a supportive community for children (see Schedule O)
