Program areas at Blackhawk School District Educational Foundation
The post-secondary education scholarships program allows individuals, businesses, and other non-profit entities to make grants and contributions to provide scholarships for seniors graduating from Blackhawk School District who are pursuing post-secondary education at a trade or technical School, two-year colleges, or four-year colleges or universities or other approved post-secondary programs. Individual scholarship criteria are established by donors with approval of the organization, in which it relies on input from the high School administration in selecting applicant awardess. During the 2023 fiscal year, the Foundation authorized $10,950 in scholarship awards; $48,400 endownment funds were transferred to a 501(c)(3) organization.
The asset improvement program allocates funds in consultation with the Blackhawk School District. All purchases funded by the organization will become property of the District. There was no activity during the 2023 for this program as the bsdef and Blackhawk School District have chosen at this time to focus efforts on the scholarship and enrichment programs.
Funds allocated by the organization to the enrichment program are used to support teachers and students in the Blackhawk School District. This program provides funding for Educational enrichment including classroom programming, Educational supplies and materials, field trips and other items in line with the mission of the bsdef, subject to the approval of the Blackhawk School District administration and board of directors. This program also provides funding for aid to students and their families as identified by the School District administration including clothing, food, utilities, etc., subject to final approval by the bsdef board of directors.
