The Blood Bank of Alaska provides Blood products and testing services to hospitals and regional health care centers throughout the state of Alaska using the community responsibility system in which there is no charge for nonplacement of Blood by a patient/recipient. The Blood Bank recruits volunteer Blood donors to assist Alaska hospitals in maintaining an adequate supply of Blood products. The Blood Bank also facilitates required Blood testing of Blood products and provides laboratory functions and storage.
