Program areas at Blue Sky Gallery
Exhibitons: 'Blue Sky's primary program service is to provide monthy exhibitions to regional and national and international artists working in the medium of photography.. Typically we hold 2 exhibitions each month. Blue Sky provides one-way return shipping costs for the artist's work; in addition, during the past tax year, each artist received a $1,000 honorarium to be used at their discretion: for travel to portland, for photo printing or shipping costs, or for other expenses. This exhibition program is free and open to the public and to our members. Additionally, Blue Sky features a year-long exhibtion program in our viewing drawers. Approximately 60 nw artists particpate in this juried exhibition. 10 prints per artists are available for viewing by the public. These prints are for sale. Artists receive a 50% commission for each sale. During this fiscal year, we mounted 19 solo exhibitions and offered 20 exhibitions in the pacific northwest drawers. We welcomed 7,484 visitors to the Gallery.
Dialogue and publications: to extend both the exhibition content and the reach wide audiences. Each exhibiting artist is offered the opportunity to give a presentation about their work during their exhibition. These talks are free and are attended on average by 33-40 people (when in-person). Artists may also deliver artist talks on zoom, available to farther-reaching audiences. Our goals is support a hybrid approach to our programs where possible. Other in-gallery programs include: portfolio walks, artist book presentations, short artist presentations, panel discussion. Other types of virtual or digital programs include: Gallery tours, panel discussions, interviews, zoom workshops. This period allowed us to focus on programs that we didn't otherwise have time to offer. We hosted 10 engaging artist talks or panel discussions in the Gallery and another 8 lively artist talks on zoom. for combined in-gallery and virtual (live) programs, we had 1800 attendees.
