Bold Futures NM

In 2022, Bold Futures engaged in policy advocacy efforts supporting the indian family protection act. This legislation codifies the federal indian child welfare act (icwa) into state law and expands protections for native children and families impacted by the child welfare system. The legislation uplifts tribal sovereignty and tribal self-determination by ensuring tribal communities are first in deciding how to care for their children in need. Bold Futures NM was proud to collaborate with new mexico tribal indian child welfare consorium (NM tic), which includes tribal icwa social worker representatives from 23 tribes across NM, coalition to stop violence against native women (csvannw), families inpacted by separation, women and families, and other stakeholders on this critical legislation. Bold Futures NM also engaged in deep long-term base building with our black, indigenous, latin, and lgbtq+ leaders whose expertise and lived experiences continue to inform all of the work we do.
