BootUp PD's Mission is to prepare and empower teachers and implement elementary coding and computer science programs nationwide in order to reach ALL students, creating equitable access to 21st-century skills. Our vision is to ensure ALL elementary students learn to code by empowering teachers.During the 2023-24 school year, BootUp PD, Inc. (BootUp) worked with 549 new schools across 44 districts in 24 states. Professional development sessions were attended by 1,827 teachers, who impacted 213,908 students.BootUp partners with schools and districts to prepare teachers across the United States to teach coding and computational thinking to elementary students. BootUp supports its mission through district implementation support and continuous professional development in which teachers participate in hands-on coding workshops, model teaching, and coaching both in-person and online. BootUp also ensures there is a systemic structure in place to on-board new teachers through the training and preparation of district instructional coaches.During 2023, BootUp employed nine full-time professional development facilitators who hosted 304 PD workshops, equaling 918 total hours of professional development. District implementation (including professional development, model teaching and coaching), an open source curriculum, an instructional coach course, and academic research makeup bootups four largest direct charitable activities:bootup PD helps districts implement elementary computer science initiatives through long-term professional development, model teaching, coaching, curricula, and an instructional coach course. Bootup works closely with each district to create a custom initiative, then provides the PD, curriculum, and support to create a complete and sustainable elementary coding program. Through ongoing professional development and mentoring, Bootup equips teachers with the experience and resources to be successful, confident coding teachers.
Bootup PD specializes in sustainable, multi-year, district-wide elementary computer science professional development focused on coding, computational thinking, creativity and problem-solving. As of december 2022, Bootup has worked with more than 1,000 elementary schools in twenty-three states, directly impacting over 500,000 students. Through ongoing professional development, model teaching, and instructional coach support, Bootup prepares participants to become confident, innovative educators who engage students with meaningful, project-based, open-ended, age-appropriate coding activities.
Teachers learn how to engage students through easy-to-use, block-based programming languages. Students create and share interactive stories, animations, games, art, music, and more through problem-solving and other fundamental computer science concepts and practices (based on the k12 cs framework and csta standards). No prior coding experience is required, and bootups support includes a free, interest-driven curriculum with nearly 100 class projects (and more to come) for grades k-6.
