Program areas at BEMP
The Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program (BEMP) creates opportunities for environmental education by building connections between students, our local communities and stakeholders. BEMP performs collaborative long-term ecological monitoring of key abiotic & biotic processes and characteristics to promote continued education, understanding, and stewardship of the riparian ecosystem to scientists, teachers, students policymakers, and the public. BEMP has 26 active data collection sites across 120 miles of the Middle Rio Grande. The data are collected each month (for many of our datasets), primarily by K-12 students and their teachers. In the 2022-2023 school year we engaged over 5,000 students teachers, and community members.
