Program areas at Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve Association
Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve (the Preserve) assists the Pennsylvania department of conservation and natural resources with maintaining, preserving and beautifying its site and facilities by stewarding a museum- accredited collection of Pennsylvania native plants. In addition, the Preserve 1) provides native plant education programs for audiences of all ages and experience levels and 2) propagates and makes available native plants for the community through sales and granting programs. The following are notable organizational accomplishments in 2023. -successful transition to quickbooks online accounting software -initiated relationship with vendor open aire affairs as exclusive provider of rental materials for the Preserve's third-party facility rental program -completed in-service staff and volunteer training, focusing on inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility (idea) -held the 23rd annual land ethics symposium online to an audience of 100+ attendees -completed phase 1: design of the cabin-classroom project - the restoration of the Preserve's 1935 american chestnut log cabin and the design of an adjacent outdoor classroom -welcomed six new members to the board of trustees -supported annual designed by nature garden tour program in partnership with the women's national farm and garden club -hosted annual donors of distinction appreciation event for Preserve donors -hosted second annual Preserve @ play children and family event, welcoming 1,000 attendees -launched second annual environmental documentary partnership with newtown theatre -completed renovation and enhancement of the medicinal trail with donor- designated funds, with successful grand re-opening celebration -successful realignment of Preserve's volunteer and visitor services departments with introduction of new volunteer & visitor services position -launched inaugural music in the meadow member appreciation & community event -hosted two summer interns with completed final projects presented to the Preserve community -completion of site accessibility assessment through art-reach of philadelphia -hosted donor cultivation event in partnership with board member and industry celebrity jenny rose carey -speaker for princeton chamber of commerce's healthcare forum on the topic of the nature-wellness connection -revised the 2023 operational budget to accommodate shifting economic impacts -completed annual retreat for board of trustees, focusing on idea and policy development -hosted third annual rooted in our future signature fundraiser event, grossing over 149,000 in revenue -board of trustees approved creation of two new committees: idea and climate change & sustainability -produced over 32,500 native plants through the native plant nursery
