Program areas at Breakthrough / Episcopal Social Services
Clubhouse and Food Program - A vocational and social rehabilitation program providing services to people diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness in Sedgwick County, Kansas. The program provides the following services: job skill training, job placement, supported education, health and wellness, social and recreation activities, and mental illness education. On July 1, 2019, Breakthrough Club, with the help of Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services, started working with other agencies across Kansas to develop other Certified Clubhouse programs. The food program run by the Breakthrough Club provides a hot breakfast five days a week to low-income people and provides food on an emergency basis to individuals who are a part of the programs of the organization. In 2023 20,062 people benefitted from the food outreach program.
Employment - Assist individuals that are unemployed gain and maintain employment and overcome or reduce barriers due to poverty or difficulties resulting from a disability. Staff and volunteers assist people with exploring job opportunities, engaging in active job search and obtaining employment. Services include: Self development/job readiness classes, Job search computer lab, Job assessments, Job placement, Job try-outs, Job coaching and Job retention support. In 2023 351 individuals were supported in the employment program.
Representative Payee Program - Provided money management services to Social Security recipients. Volunteers and staff of the organization assist clients with developing a monthly budget and ensure that their bills are paid. Staff and volunteers make weekly contact with clients to make certain that the clients' day-to-day needs for food and shelter are met. In 2023 407 payee clients were managed in 2023.
