Program areas at Briargrove Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization
The Briargrove Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) provides volunteers and raises funds to enhance school programs. Over 850 students attend Briargrove Elementary. All Briargrove Elementary students benefit from PTO sponsored activities. The PTO supplements the following programs that would not be possible without the efforts of the PTO: International Baccalaureate PYP Program The PTO provided the funds necessary to receive this accreditation. The PTO continues to financially support the IB program by covering the yearly fees and training for our teachers. Curriculum At the request of the teachers and administration, the PTO funds specific curriculum tools that HISD does not provide. These include Stem Scopes, Writers Workshop, language software and Mentoring Minds workbooks. Security PTO provides off-duty HPD officers at drop-off and pick-up times to create a safe and orderly environment for our children.Capital Improvements Every year the PTO funds specific projects to continue improving our campus and the safety of our children/staff. Some examples are: Security upgrades to the building, automatic gates for the back driveway, the pergola on the parent patio, playground equipment, beautification of the grounds, flexible seating options for the classrooms, and sound equipment. Throughout the school year, the PTO hosts a multitude of ways we connect as a community, some of these are large scale like the carnival and annual auction, and some events are small. This gives our community varying ways to participate and connect with each other. A sampling of these include: Book Fair Dad's Club Field Day Fifth Grade activities Democracy Day, Sock Hop and Graduation, all events to honor our 5th graders Grade level socials International Festival Spaghetti Dinner Teacher AppreciationSeveral Spring 2020 events were canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
