Program areas at Brodheads Watershed Association
As part of the Delaware river Watershed initiative collaborated with locations and regional partners to further the goals of the initiative. Bwa's role and focuses on community engagement activities and programs to educate that protected lands equal protected and clean water, working with municipalities on storm water issues, and communicating with public. The importance of clean water in the region through targeted educational outreach.
Managed a citizen science project to study water quality in streams throughout the Watershed. About 50 volunteers monitor over 100 sites. A report on data collected in the first 30 years is posted on the bwa website.
Promoted the use of green stormwater infrastructure, and the importance of riparian buffers, through educational outreach and demonstration projects in the mill creek subwatershed in barrett township, monroe county.
Educational programming is provided for the general public through an annual ramble program - focusing on a particular area of the Watershed, a native plant sale, an in-depth study of two headwaters streams, and outreach on rain barrels, rain gardens, streambank planting and general clean water topics.
