Description
The Brooklyn Bar Association furthers the legal profession by sponsoring Continuing Legal Education programs, providing networking opportunities and a Lawyer Referral Service. COVID-19 temporarily suspended its community outreach efforts through the BBA Foundation Law Committees, but the BBA LRS will provide live Facebook feeds of these events. The Association offers social and networking events with colleagues and judiciary members. Its committees and sections offer leadership opportunities and career growth. The Association also continues to arbitrate cases.

Program areas at Brooklyn Bar Association

The Brooklyn Bar Lawyers Referral Service remains committed to the Brooklyn community by referring thousands of callers to available pro bono services attorneys as well as other government agencies and community resources that provide legal services throughout NYC. It is the only referral service in Brooklyn that has been certified by the American Bar Association. The BBA has over 150 prescreened lawyers with expertise in virtually all areas of the law who must meet or exceed very high standards of experience and qualifications. The BBA LRS also provides an outreach to the community by sponsoring free legal information presentations, while continuing with virtual versions which were commenced during the COVID pandemic. The BBA LRS participates in the Brooklyn Pride Festival and maintains a speakers bureau for legal lectures.
The Brooklyn Bar Association provided in person and live streaming continuing legal education courses to the legal community and prerecorded CLE courses were available during the period.
The Brooklyn Bar Association provided a variety of social/networking events with colleagues and members of the judiciary. The committees and sections provided access to leadership opportunities and career growth. The Association also continued to arbitrate fee disputes, reviewed referred grievances and produced content for our quarterly publication. The Association has approximately 850 members.
