Program areas at Bucks County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty To Animals
Animal sheltering, rescue, and re-homing: in 2023, there were 1,130 adoptions of cats, dogs, small and farm Animals from bcspca's two shelters in lahaska and quakertown. Most of these Animals were surrendered or lost pets who needed our help To find a new home. Some were injured stray Animals rescued through our 24-hour emergency hotline, the rest were rescued through our humane law enforcement investigations or transferred in from other agencies. All of these Animals received necessary food, shelter, and medical care, including neutering, vaccinations, and microchipping for dogs, cats, and rabbits prior To adoption. Some received specialized care or surgeries To recover from injury, illness, or abuse. Our shelters also provided services for hundreds of other Bucks County Animals through the free pet behavior helpline, dog training classes, lost and found pet assistance, and subsidized low-cost end of life services.
Animal Cruelty investigation and prosecution: bcspca employs a team of humane law enforcement officers. In 2023, they investigated 401 complaints of suspected animal Cruelty and neglect throughout the County. From these investigations, bcspca rescued 237 Animals and provided them with the medical and other essential care they needed. In addition To enforcement of animal Cruelty laws, humane law enforcement officers provide specialized assistance To local police forces, community education, and other efforts To prevent and resolve animal-related issues across Bucks County. Our officers are funded solely through donor support.
Community outreach: provides education and resources for the humane treatment of Animals, and a variety of services To assist struggling pet owners who need help To care for and keep their pets. Hundreds of students received training last year about the humane treatment of Animals through shelter tours, presentations, community events, and supervision of service projects. the surrender Prevention program assisted 134 households and their Animals. Over $31,000 in small grants were provided through partnership with local veterinary clinics To get needy pets the essential medical care they needed. Countless other pets and their families were aided through in-kind donations of more than 11,000 pounds pet food and pet supplies donated To local pantries across the community.
