Program areas at Mayday Space
We continue to offer classes, events and workshops designed by the Mayday collective (bod), staff, and Mayday volunteers these were in several priority areas including health and well-being, political education, and visual arts and music education. Revenue came in the from of ticket sales, course registration fees, and grants, namely the creative rebuilds new york artist employment program. Expenses were primarily payments to instructors, facilitators, and collaborating organizations that put on programs and also included materials, food, and transportation for volunteers and participants.
In 2023, Mayday Space offered two season of spanish for social justice classes in three levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Classes were priced on sliding scale according to participants ability to pay. We also hosted a music production class, liberation sounds,, and classes were also priced on a sliding scale according to participants ability to pay.
Mayday Space continues to rent our Space to social justice-oriented local community groups, mutual aid collectives and non-profit organizations for their in-person activities. This includes food and clothing distributions, strategic planning retreats, fundrraisers, and film screenings. This is an important function of our mission as it allows us to build the movement for social justice by bringing groups together and providing a needed resource physical Space. Groups book the Space on an hourly sliding scale rate dependent on their organizational budget. These rates are publicly available on our websites.
