Program areas at Butler St Community Dev Corporation
Give a child a smile: this is our signature event each year. The program provides christmas/holiday gifts, a christmas party with santa including food, games and prizes for underserved local children and their parents.
City mural project: the first black policemen in atlanta during de-segregation in the 1960's are depicted in oversized paintings on the front of the historic Butler street ymca building. The bottom floor of the Butler street ymca was used as the headquarters for these officers, as they were not allowed inside the existing police headquarters. Thousands of city residents and tourists became aware of these men and educated about the bscdc's contribution to integration in atlanta
Backpack program: 150 backpacks were assembled and fully packed with school supplies. These backpacks were distributed to children, from low-income families, in several area schools who otherwise would not have school supplies without the program.
