Domestic policy: to meet the u.s. target to cut emissions 50-52% by 2030, C2es facilitated business coalitions to build support for strong Climate policies. As policymakers formulated what would become the inflation reduction act (ira), C2es organized companies in a campaign to revive the package and support $369b in Climate investments. Building on ira's success, C2es worked with leading businesses to develop reaching for 2030, a set of policy recommendations to help the u.s. reach its 2030 target, which C2es announced on capitol hill with businesses and bipartisan members of congress. C2es also hosted regional roundtables with local, state, and federal stakeholders in seven states to build grasstops support for ambitious Climate policy. Working with companies to identify challenges to broader deployment, C2es engaged a range of stakeholders, including corporate buyers, climate-tech companies, and policymakers, to pursue Solutions to scale clean Energy technologies including carbon removal and renewable sources of industrial heat.
Elevating opportunities for business leaders to engage: C2es works with companies- including members of our business environmental leadership council-to educate business leaders, strengthen corporate Climate action, and mobilize business support for Climate policies. Building on previous work, C2es submitted comments to the securities and exchange commission on its proposed rule on climate-related financial disclosures. In march of 2023, C2es partnered to launch the aim platform to support the development of innovative approaches to help companies reduce emissions throughout their value chains. C2es also again co-hosted the Climate leadership conference and awards in Washington, dc. C2es is employing the insights of business leaders to strengthen the economic competitiveness and resilience of the communities where they operate. Two new C2es papers, the Climate resilience-economy nexus and an emerging blueprint for companies, explored the contribution of businesses in strengthening community resilience: 1) outlining how corporate resources, funding, and expertise make a difference; and 2) detailing how incorporating economic development considerations into Climate resilience-focused efforts can unlock new benefits.
International policy: to promote the environmental effectiveness of the paris agreement, C2es produces expert analysis and facilitates informal dialogue among key countries, supporting paris-aligned mitigation, adaptation, and finance commitments to boost the chance of meeting the 1.5 degree c limit by 2100. C2es's efforts laid the foundation for progress at cop27 in egypt, including adoption of loss and damage (l&d) funding arrangements, agreements on a mitigation work programme to enhance pre-2030 ambition, and operationalization of the santiago network to provide vulnerable countries with technical assistance on l&d. C2es is at the Center of global efforts to strengthen and reform voluntary carbon markets. We are a founding member of the integrity council for the voluntary carbon market, which is establishing a threshold quality standard for carbon credits. C2es also supports the Energy transition accelerator, an initiative announced at cop27 by the u.s. government, the rockefeller foundation, and bezos earth fund to catalyze private capital to help fund the just clean Energy transition in developing countries.
