Other:community garden - cric provided a plot where more than 50 refugees and Immigrant families planted, grew, and harvested their own vegetables on about 55 plots, with the option to sell the produce at the logan gardeners market. The space was also a meeting place for families to gather and socialize. Extra produce from the garden was donated to the Cache community food pantry.money management classes - cric offered online and in-person classes in both spanish and english for individuals unfamiliar with the u.s. banking and credit systems to learn essential personal finance concepts including choosing a bank, different types of bank accounts, budgeting, different ways to pay bills, credit vs. debit cards. The course met once weekly for six weeks.citizenship tutoring - cric provided one-on-one tutoring to practice english language skills and in american history and civics to prepare for the u.s. Citizenship interview.driver's license study assistance - cric offered one-on-one tutoring for the written Utah drivers license test in english, spanish, and other languages whenever possible.small business advising - cric provided one-on-one support for refugees and immigrants who own and operate a small business, or who were interested in becoming a small business owner.partner organizations and other referrals - cric referred refugees and immigrants to a variety of services partner organizations in the area that offered services such as free mental health appointments, free or low-cost health clincis, immigration attorney referrals, and referrals to the english language center.
Re-settlement: on 10/1/2022 cric was approved to administer the resettlement & placement program as an official resettlement agency affiliated with church world services, working with newly-arriving refugees placed by the u.s. state department to help them settle and integrate into their new life in the united states. From 10/1/2022 to 6/30/2023 cric re-settled 35 direct arrivals from 7 different contries. Our responsibilities included airport pick-up, locating housing, finding employment, enrolling in school, scheduling medical appointments, accessing appriate legal resources, navigating the u.s. immigration system, and more.cric also is part of the preferred communities program through the u.s. department of health and human services,office of Refugee resettlement. Through this program cric supported refugees and other orr-eligible populations.cric also supported 25 secondary migrant afghans and 19 ukrainian humanitarian parolees to resettle into Cache valley.
Covid relief: cric received grants and voluntary cash donations from the community to provide key facets of covid relief for Refugee and immigrants including conducting vaccination clinics, conducting public information and outreach campaigns to disseminate accurate covid medical information thoughout our communities.
