Program areas at California Council on Economic Education

John nickoll programs: the john nickoll family financial literacy events provides financial literacy Education for los angeles unified school district students, teachers and their families. Students learn valuable lessons such as budgeting, credit, banking basics, and investing. The online and in-person events gives financial professionals an opportunity to volunteer and share valable financial Education to hundreds of students and their families. $martpath is a digital platform designed to assist teachers with the difficult task of teaching economics and personal finance to children in grades 1st-8th amid strict state standardized testing requirements of math and english-language arts, often displacing and de-prioritizing other subject coverage. Teachers have access to curriculum that can be tailored to classroom goals and format, including teachers with learners across the advancement spectrum.
Student contests comprise a growing number of events held throughout the year, including the personal finance challenge, the national economics challenge, the financial adviser's contest and the stock market game. These events reach thousands of students each year and provide novel experiences for students to apply their learning in non-classroom settings, be mentored by financial professionals, spend time in real-world applications of the material, and enjoy a competitive experience with other similar students across the state. The in-person finals for these culminate in an on-site experience, typically held at a branch location of the federal reserve bank of san francisco.
Family financial fun nights (fffn) are a school-site program intended primarily for elementary school sites. These events bring together young students and their parents, families and the extended school community for activity-driven exchanges on foundational personal finance concepts such as needs vs wants, budgeting, saving, career planning and more. Ccee has worked with our affiliate centers to provide multiple such events at schools in low-to-moderate income (lmi) communities across orange and san diego counties with plans to reach more schools and communities of need across the state.
Targeted between middle school and elementary.
