Program areas at California Urban Partnership
We further built out and refined the institute for more (i4m) our program to advance equity in public policy and the cannabis industry through research, training, and advocacy supports the drug war survivors who are entrepreneurs. With the goal of securing trauma-informed economic benefits for survivors of racialized cannabis policies, the I4M had on ongoing engagement with the city of Sacramento and 72 core program (cannabis opportunity, reinvestment, and equity) eligible participants regarding a regional cannabis industry study commissioned by the city, to help ensure that the data accurately reflects core participant conditions, voices, and needs.
We continued to take a strong leadership position in collaborating with over 30 local activists on a monthly basis and working with race forward, to shape city of Sacramento practices to improve community health through completing racial equity impact assessments as part of the city budget and policymaking decisions. Our efforts resulted in the city's establishment of a racial equity committee. This work has influenced Sacramentos mayor to speak publicly on, and follow the precedent of other cities around the nation that are working on reparations to address the injustices that continue to harm American descendants of enslaved Africans.
Convened over 150 people comprised of cannabis equality entrepreneurs, advocates and policymakers, for the CUP's 2 day Economic and Racial Justice Summit. Attendees(curated from regions across the state - Oakland, San Francisco, Sacramento, Fresno, Los Angeles and San Diego) recieved data presentations and formulated an agenda for defining health equity, reinvestment and justice in California's Marijuana policies.
