Program areas at California WIC Association
Consulting and other expenses to improve communications, nutrition and breastfeeding policy knowledge, and professional development among WIC state and local staff, and other public health professionals, via a quarterly newsletter, bi-weekly electronic list serve, and web site; provided leadership training and skill-building for WIC managers and staff to improve services in the WIC program; and solicited and oversaw formative research to determine best practices in WIC nutrition education and evaluationand breastfeeding policies administered by the WIC Worksite Wellness Program for local WIC staff to improve employee health and nutrition.
California Nutrition Corps is a scholarship fund established in 2002 to support employees of California local WIC programs who are advancing their professional careers within the WIC program. The vision of California Nutrition Corps is to nurture and support individuals with the competency, talent, and dedication that are key to WIC's proven effectiveness. Frontline WIC staff from the community, often graduates of WIC themselves, need more affordable, convenient and achievable opportunities in order to complete their educational goals and professional training.
WIC held conferences for approximately 1000 state and local WIC employees from 84 agencies, providing current clinical and educational updates and substantive policy and management training.
