Love & Bananas (film) was inspired by and filmed, in part, at the Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary. It is focused upon our Asian partner, Ms. Lek Chaillert, a world renowned animal advocate and elephant sanctuary expert. She has been partnering with us for approximately 10 years to develop the sanctuary. Those funds, and more, were dedicated to the distribution of the film, worldwide, to promote the sanctuary, prevent tourists from innocently riding elephants without an awareness that it requires severe elephant abuse, and to secure volunteers and donors to help us expand and continue our mission to protect these defenseless animals and their habitat.
We have successfully rescued four elephants, countless gibbons and monkeys, tigers, wild birds, sloths, snakes and other indigenous species. We have also developed our own military to protect our sanctuary land from illegal logging and poaching. As part of that process, we have developed a volunteer center where we welcome people from all over the world. Bungalows, bathrooms and a large communal kitchen and dining area welcome our volunteers. All power is provided by solar collection and all food served is vegan, grown on the property. We have built fire breaks, water features for the animals and we are in the process of constructing a world-first sanctuary for bull elephants.
