Program areas at Camp Rehoboth
Community centercamp Rehoboth works to create proud and safe communities where gender identity and sexual orientation do not matter. The center, a full-service community center, includes a large multi-purpose room, gallery space, conference rooms, a library/reading room, an hiv testing center, and the Camp Rehoboth courtyard which is open to the public. As the "heart of the community" the center provides tangible value as a gathering place for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning/queer+ (lgbtq+) individuals, and all for solace, support, education, celebration, and as a hub for a wide range of activities. It is supported by an engaged board, a dedicated staff, and an impressive group of volunteers who help carry out its critical programs and services. The community center is the meeting place for nonprofit organizations who share Camp Rehoboth's mission of promoting community well-being. In 2023 Camp Rehoboth has witnessed remarkable achievements. Through a diverse range of arts, health and community programs, we have empowered many members to embrace their true selves and live authentically. As an onslaught of anti-lgbtq+ legislation abounds in states across our nation, Camp Rehoboth recognized the need to create safe spaces for the lgbtq+ community is more important than ever. Camp Rehoboth's community center remained alive with health and wellness activities and clinics, concerts, comedy shows, theater productions, art shows, and more. Additionally, Camp Rehoboth continued to evaluate which services and programs are needed by the community and the best way to deliver those activities.
Outreach, education and creative artscamp Rehoboth provided education and outreach to the larger community, promoting positive images of lgbtq+ people, functioning as a networking and information resource, supporting local nonprofits that work toward the betterment of the community, and fostering the economic growth of the area. Camp Rehoboth partnered and collaborated with more than 40 organizations in 2023 and had over 140 event sponsors. Camp Rehoboth published over 48,000 copies of letters from Camp Rehoboth and distributed it at over 100 community locations. The 72 to 120-page magazine served as a valuable resource for residents and people visiting the area. Camp Rehoboth fostered the development of nonprofit groups that support Camp Rehoboth's mission and helped them by donating advertising space in letters. The magazine had an average of 66.8k online reads in 2023, which was an increase from 58.3k online reads in the previous year. Created in 2009, the Camp Rehoboth outreach program (crop) provided over 100 volunteers in 2023 to participate in community service at the food bank of Delaware, toys for tots, southern Delaware therapeutic riding, cape henlopen state park, Rehoboth beach boardwalk, and brandywine spca.the Camp Rehoboth chorus, consisting of 102 members, had three performances with over 3,000 people in attendance. The chorus and its ensemble served as Camp Rehoboth's ambassador to the community and presented outreach performances for the community. Every month during the year, Camp Rehoboth's community center featured rotating art exhibits. Over 130 artists were featured including the winners of the "Delaware division of the arts 2023 individual artist award." The art exhibits were attended by over 700 people. Camp Rehoboth presented three theatrical productions in our atrium, which were seen by over 730 audience members. The four-day april women's fest celebrated its 22nd year with sporting events, dances, local and national comedy acts and concerts, and keynote speakers. The event had over 4,500 attendees and culminated with the broadwalk on the boardwalk raising funds and awareness with the Delaware breast cancer coalition.with over 2,000 in attendance, sunfestival, Camp Rehoboth's largest fundraiser of the year on labor day weekend, hosted over 2,000 attendees at sold out events including a comedy show, dance, and auction. In october, 100 vendors and non-profit organizations participated in a day long outdoor event held in the block of baltimore avenue in front of Camp Rehoboth's office. Over 4,000 people attended the Camp block party and strolled the block viewing crafts, information booths, and listening to local musical acts and entertainers. Camp Rehoboth staff and board members continued to conduct sensitivity training to Rehoboth beach police cadets, Delaware natural resources and environmental control officers, and state park personnel.in addition, Camp Rehoboth played a significant role in habitat for humanity's house building projects by providing volunteers to support their efforts.
Health and wellnesscamp Rehoboth offered programs that supported community wellness on all levels. Camp Rehoboth's programs provided physical activity, social interaction, and spiritual and mental health support. Programs included yoga and tai chi classes, bereavement group, women in circle, book club, flaming knitters, and a golf league consisting of 74 women.the Camp safe and hiv/aids screening and education programs, considered an essential health service, distributed over 52k condoms throughout Delaware. Camp safe had seven testing locations in sussex county reaching underserved communities, which included daily testing at the clinic at our headquarters in Rehoboth. Educational materials about hiv and mpox were distributed throughout the county at over 30 sites. Additionally, flu shots were provided to the community in partnership with beebe healthcare and we participated in a blood drive with the blood bank of delmarva.
