Program areas at Candlewood Valley Regional Land Trust
The Candlewood Valley Regional Land Trust protects open spaces that contribute to the Candlewood Valley iconic rural New England character. We're all about the Land. At Candlewood Valley Regional Land Trust, we seek to protect properties which are fragile or at risk for becoming overdeveloped. We steward properties to protect their natural resources in perpetuity, and we provide education so everyone can learn how to protect and steward our lands together. We offer opportunities to connect with nature and each other. Our overall strategic vision is to create greenways across towns that make up our land trusts; to work with other land trusts so these green corridors crease our entire state. Why? Because greenways are healthy, and land knows no boundaries. Candlewood Valley Regional Land Trust was formed by the merger of two land trusts in Danbury and New Fairfield, combining 516 acres of protected land and more than 45 years of working history. As one collaborative trust, we have become an organization with an enhanced ability to protect and steward our lands. As with many other organizations, COVID-19 has severely impacted the land trust's ability to host events such as group hikes and fundraising activities. We are an accredited land trust. This is a hard-won seal of approval for our history of working in the Candlewood Valley region to protect the natural resources, wildlife, habitat, and open vistas what our residents have come to appreciate. We are a stronger organization for having gone through the rigorous accreditation program. This strength will help make Candlewood Valley a better place for current and future generations.
